Obika On The Mark Again

Striker makes it 6 in 5 as U's prepare for Palace

18 July 2018

Big Jon Obika made it six goals in five games last night when he netted the second goal in United’s 3-0 win at Aldershot Town.

“It was good to get another one” the striker told iFollow after the game “but I thought all of the lads did well again. There’s a bit of an understanding developing, we are enjoying our football and things are going well right now.

“I have managed to score a few goals now in pre-season and that can only help with confidence. I definitely feel fitter than last year and pre-season has been really good. It has been tough physically but we are all getting the benefit of that. Ireland was as hard as any pre-season I have known, but you just work hard and know you will be fitter and stronger because of it.”

With new faces on the horizon and attacking options high on the Manager’s list Jon knows he may face competition up top by the time we kick off at Barnsley on August 4th

“I know that and I relish it really. It’s all about the team and you want competition for every place because it can only help. We all need to push each other for those places and if new forwards arrive then so be it; I will try to work harder, keep scoring goals and push myself all the way.

“Right now, we are looking forward to the games against Palace and Leeds. Obviously they are tougher tests and you want to test yourself against Premier League and Championship sides so we hope we can play well again and hopefully get another positive result.”
