PREVIEW MK Dons v Oxford United

U's look to end pre-season with a win as Robinson returns to MK

27 July 2018

Oxford United end their pre-season schedule with the short trip to MK Dons this evening (7.45pm)

TEAM NEWS

Gavin Whyte and Tony McMahon return to the squad after missing the win over Leeds on Tuesday. Whyte wasn't risked so soon after making his first appearance against Crystal Palace, while McMahon was given a couple of days off to be with his family and pregnant wife. Both are available again tonight, although new signing Marcus Browne may have to wait while he is eased in to game time after joining on Tuesday.

Karl Robinson, Rob Hall and Samir Carruthers all return to Stadium MK to face their former club.

THE OPPOSITION

New Dons boss Paul Tisdale has rung the changes to bring in plenty of new faces as he tries to guide his new club back to League 1 after relegation last season.

"I'm still learning and every day offers me more information on the players here. We'll just keep a watching brief on it," the former Exeter boss said.

"We're not playing a game here. Our expectations should be do to as well as we can do. There will be a lot more than three or four teams thinking of making it this season. Everyone in this league will think they've got a chance, and after 10 or 12 games, some teams will begin to think they won't make it.

"If things go right and we find a rhythm, we've got a chance of making it to the top part of the league. I have a lot of work to do but we'd be doing ourselves a disservice if we aim too low. But I'm very practical about things. The last few seasons here haven't been great and I have to get the wheels turning forwards rather than backwards."
