Nine New Scholars at Oxford United

Nine youngsters get their chance with the U's

25 April 2018

Oxford United are pleased to announce that we have today agreed to sign nine new scholars for the 2018/19 season.

Max Evans – A 6’ 2” goalkeeper who has already featured in our Under-18s squads this season.
Harry Sampford – An athletic wide player/full back from Abingdon who has been with the club’s Academy since Primary school.
Viktor Milton – A cultured, 6’3” Centre Back who has signed from West Bromwich Albion.
Nico Jones – A powerful, 6’ 3” Left-sided Centre back who has signed from Fulham.
Leon Chambers-Parillon – A ball-playing midfielder who has spent time with Luton Town and Aston Villa.
Jack Stevens – A clever number 10 who has been attached to our college programme this year.
Fabio Lopes – A dynamic, Bicester-based, Centre Forward who has been with the club for the last 2 years.
Slavi Spasov – An Aggressive forward/midfield player who has been with the Academy for the last 3 years.
Jordan Edwards – A powerful number 9 who has signed from Stoke City.

All nine lads were at the first team training ground last night for their induction evening and official signing where they had the chance to meet all the Academy staff – thanks to all who worked late to make the evening a success.

Managing Director, Niall McWilliams, who welcomed the new intake of players to the club, said “This is an exciting day for Oxford United as we take another step forward in our plans for the future. As a club we have always had a tradition of young players featuring in our first team and we look forward to working with this latest group as they take the next step in their football development.”

Academy Manager, Dan Harris said

“We’ve tried to change the profile of our intake a little bit this year to ensure we’re better able to produce players with the profile to play in the Manager’s first team. We want lads with a burning desire to be excellent; a physicality that can cope with Championship-level football and a comfort level on the ball that is in keeping with the proud traditions of this club. We’re excited about what this group might become.”

Our latest crop of young players under the care of Leon Blackmore-Such and Chris Hackett will finish the season with a high-profile fixture against Premier League side West Bromwich Albion next week.
