PREVIEW Oxford United v Middlesbrough

U's set for game one in Portugal

12 July 2017

Oxford United take on Middlesbrough this evening in the first game of their Portugal tour (6.30pm).

The U’s won their opening pre-season game 3-0 at Oxford City on Saturday and new boss Pep Clotet now takes on old friend Gary Monk’s Boro side looking to build momentum until the season kicks off in August.

John Obika features for the first time after his arrival last week while Aaron Martin is expected to be involved for the first time after an achilles injury. Defender Mike Williamson has been training with United this week but will not feature tonight.

Two days of double training sessions in the heat of the Algarve mean one or two slight strains and no risks will be taken on any injuries at this stage but everyone fit will get a chance tonight.

If you are in Portugal

The game is at the Ferreiras Stadium, Albufeira.

Admission is 10 euros and the gates open at 5pm

We went along to take a look yesterday and there are bars and restaurants around the ground as well as car parking in the streets around the ground. Local advise was that they would try to organise local taxis and minibuses to be available to take fans back to Albufeira and Vilamoura after the game.

The main stand has around 600 seats, which should be in the shade come kick off time, while there is standing around the rest of the ground. There is a large bar just inside the entrance to the ground.

Don’t rush off after the game: Pep Clotet and the players will be around for an hour or so after to thank fans for making the trip to Portugal and will be happy to meet everyone and have photos/sign autographs.

Full report right here at the final whistle
