U's Bid to Bounce Back

Appleton hopes for Wednesday reaction from his side

Oxford United will look to bounce back from their Wembley disappointment when they welcome Fleetwood Town to Grenoble Road on Wednesday evening.

“As with most games it was decided in both boxes” Head Coach Michael Appleton reflected after United’s 2-1 defeat to Coventry City. "The first one we could have done better in the build up and the second was a really good goal. We got our selves back into it but it wasn’t to be today and I can assure you the dressing room is very flat because it was a very frustrating day.

“We spoke about the occasion but they are a good group, a young group, and they will get better from this. Now we have to go again pretty quickly because we have another big game on Wednesday night against Fleetwood. We still believe the play-offs are attainable although it is going to be a tough slog. If we are going to get there then we have to win at least five of the remaining six games so it’s a tall order.

“But we have to play sides that are above us in the table, starting with Fleetwood and we tend to do OK against the top sides; the players have done that really well this year. Hopefully that will be the case again on Wednesday and for the remainder of the season.”
