THE VERDICT Appleton On MK Draw

19 September 2016

"It could have gone either way" says Appleton

Oxford United fought out a 0-0 draw at MK Dons on Saturday, leaving Head Coach Michael Appleton in reflective mood.

“I think it was a mixed performance” he told Yellow Player HD after the game.”At times, five or ten minutes spells, we were very good but at others we got a little bit sloppy. We defended well when we had to and Easty, when he had to make one big save, pulled it off.

“ It could have gone either way but it was always going to be a tight game. They are a decent side. They have been struggling a little bit at home, we have been struggling a bit away, so maybe it was always destined to end up 0-0! I thought we started well and I thought we would go on from there, but losing Wes Thomas was a little bit of a setback and it took us a while to readjust.

“We didn’t settle for a point we went for all three. At times I was a little bit worried that we were doing that rather than having a decent spell of possession, but the players want to win every game we play in so you can’t complain and that will definitely serve them well over the coming weeks and months.”

Michael was quick to praise the close to 4,000 fans who backed his side:

“It was incredible. We were talking about it on the bench. They were superb again on the back of the Swindon game. To bring that many certainly helped the lads, especially in the last 20 minutes attacking the end where thy all were. It certainly gave us a lift and hopefully the fans will be just as good against Charlton at home this Saturday.”
