Trophy Tour Fun On The Way To Oxford

11 March 2016

Help 'Paint the City Yellow' as the Johnstone's Paint Trophy comes to Oxford

Oxford United fans will have the chance to mingle with their Wembley heroes – and get up close and personal to the famous Johnstone’s Paint Trophy – at a special event in the city.

Members of the Oxford squad will be on hand to meet and greet supporters at Templars Square Shopping Centre on Thursday, March 17th as the countdown to the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy Final between United and Barnsley gathers pace. Fans will have the chance to have their picture taken with the coveted trophy at the free celebration event, while there will be competitions to win Johnstone’s goodies.

The event runs from 2.30pm to 5.30pm, with Oxford’s players in attendance between 4pm and 5pm. The Templars Square Shopping Centre event will be one of the highlights as the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy team visit for an action packed Trophy Tour ahead of Oxford’s eagerly anticipated trip to Wembley Stadium on Sunday, April 3rd.

The Oxford Trophy Tour fun gets underway on Wednesday, March 16 with the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy on display at Johnstone’s Decorating Centre on Watlington Road (OX4 6NH) between 7.30am and 9am. Later that same day, the trophy will be on display at B & M in Abingdon (OX14 1BY) between noon and 1pm and B & M in Didcot (OX11 9DA) between 2pm and 3pm.

On Thursday, March 17, the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy team will hit the streets of Oxford to take in local efforts to ‘Paint the City Yellow’ to back the club ahead of their big day. Businesses, schools, shops, community groups and charities are being encouraged to get behind their local club by decorating buildings in ‘Oxford Yellow’ using banners, flags and bunting. The Oxford Trophy Tour concludes with the Templars Square event.

Johnstone’s Trade brand and sponsorship manager Jonathan McCourt said:

“We are looking forward to a fantastic two days in Oxford. The fact that more than 30,000 tickets have been sold by the club shows how excited the fans are about the trip to Wembley" he said. “Throughout the 10 years Johnstone’s has sponsored the Football League Trophy, there has been a very strong commitment to engaging with fans and communities at every opportunity.

“There is no better way than hitting the road and meeting up with the supporters of a club who have reached the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy Final. Wembley fever has well and truly struck for Oxford and these events will add to the excitement around the club and the city. It would be fantastic to see as many fans as possible come and join the fun.”

The 2015-16 campaign represents the 10th season of partnership between Johnstone’s and the Football League.
