U's get set for Tuesday night against Dagenham at the Kassam Stadium
Oxford United welcome Dagenham and Redbridge to the Kassam Stadium on Tuesday looking for a convincing home win after a disappointing 1-0 defeat to Leyton Orient on Saturday.“I think the players felt they let themselves down on Saturday, as individuals and professionals they know when they can do better” Head Coach Michael Appleton told Yellow Player HD. “After playing so well in the previous three or four games it probably hurt them, but they have an opportunity to put it right on Tuesday and if we get it right then we can inflict a real psychological blow to the rest of the sides around us.
“Opening a three point gap over Plymouth would be great and widening the gap to the play-off chasing sides would be good as well.
“But it won’t be easy. I will be reminding the payers of the Hartlepool game from about this time last year. That ended up being a very difficult night because we didn’t apply ourselves properly right from the start. If we apply ourselves from the first whistle then I feel we can beat anyone in this division.”
It’s tight at the top of the table but John Still’s Dagenham are under even greater pressure to try and preserve their Football League status. Currently propping up the table, the Daggers will look to cause an upset, as Michael acknowledges:
“When you are under that sort of pressure then desperate people will do desperate things to get what they want. If we match them early doors and show the right commitment then I’d expect the ability we have in the team to shine through. But that will only happen with the right attitude, so we are under no illusions and will take nothing for granted.”
