Finnish Full Back Joins Oxford United Women
Oxford United women are pleased to announce that they have competed the signing of Finnish full back Katja Hakala from FC Honka,
Katja, who is currently studying at Brookes University, has played at a high standard in Finland, as Manager Les Taylor told us:
“Katja is a versatile player who can play either right/left-back and wide midfield. Katja is technically good on the ball, has good pace and likes to tackle.
“She has a good footballing background having played in the top women`s league in Finland. She is an excellent addition to the women's squad”
Katja said:
“I am very excited about having a chance to play the next season in the Oxford United squad. This is a great opportunity for me to experience English WSL2 football after having just finished last season with the Finnish FC Honka reaching the 5th position in the national women´s league.
“There are many similarities in these clubs, as they are both consistently developing new players to the national level and I am sure that the time with Oxford will help me to further develop my skills.
“Integration to a new team in a new country is always challenging. It has been very rewarding for me to be so well received by the club, the team mates and coaches. In addition, the atmosphere in the matches in England is something unique. I will do my best to help the team to reach its objectives this year!”
