Get Behind The U's On Saturday

18 February 2016

"Saturday's game is bigger than Tuesday was" says Appleton

Boss Michael Appleton is calling on Oxford United fans to come along in numbers and get behind the U’s against Accrington on Saturday. United have been attracting big crowds this season but the U’s’ Head Coach is asking supporters to rally round and get behind his third-placed side as they take on the side hottest on their heels.

“Saturday is arguably a bigger game than Tuesday was” he told Yellow Player HD. “Northampton have opened up a big gap now and good luck to them, as long as they beat teams around us. But from our point of view it’s a home game where I’d like to think we can get as many home supporters in as we did on Tuesday.

“ I think the fans realise just how big a game it is, and if they get behind us like they did on Tuesday then that will give us a massive lift.”

The U’s will be without skipper Jake Wright  after he felt his hamstring tighten up on Tuesday night.

“Jake has a grade one hamstring injury which will take ten days or so” Michael confirmed. “That probably means he misses four or five games. But on the plus side Chey Dunkley has come in before and done really well so it’s an opportunity for him to come in again and stake a claim to stay in the side. Johnny Mullins will be captain in Jake’s absence. We have a decent record when he is captain. It gives him a little more responsibility which doesn’t do him any harm at all.”

Accrington are six points behind United and looking to close that gap.

“Accrington are a very attractive side, and very dangerous” Michael said. “The good thing for them is that they play with no huge pressure every week, but I take my hat off to John and his team  up there because they have done fantastically well.

“It will be a good game I’m sure, so we want as many Oxford fans as possible to come and join us and make a fantastic atmosphere to drive us forward.”
