Cambridge Game is Military Day

U's back the armed forces

Saturday 14th November will see Oxford United salute the work of the armed forces with the home game against Cambridge United chosen as our annual Military Day.

The U’s return to home Sky Bet League 2 action at the Kassam Stadium and there will be a fantastic range of activities and events on offer before kick-off and at half time.

Representatives of the Army, Navy and RAF will be here and helping add to the day with plenty for the whole family to enjoy. Military vehicles and equipment will be on display, there will be turbo training and assault courses, a giant screen and stands and demonstrations from all branches of the military from 12pm.

Shortly before kick off the ball will be presented to the match referee by members of a local regiment and there might just be a helicopter to wave at overhead. A collection will be held to help raise funds for five leading military charities, while guests in the matchday restaurant will have a chance to chat with officers and personnel. Local serving personnel will be offered free tickets through the club’s Community Trust.

Half time will see a special ’Crossbar Challenge’ - who will come out on top - Army, Navy or RAF?

United will get the ball rolling this weekend when they will wear red poppies on their shirts for the away game at Braintree, with the shirts to be auctioned off for this year’s poppy appeal.

Caroline Robbins, the Community Trust’s Operations Director said:

“Military Day this year will be another fantastic way to acknowledge the work of this country’s armed forces.

“We are proud of all that they do for us and Military Day is a way of celebrating our service men and women and thanking them for their service. There will be plenty of things going on around the ground and we would love people to come along, join in, and be part of what will be another memorable event at Oxford United”.

The Liontrust Heroes Fanzone will be open for this game in front of the South Stand and tickets are available for the game from www.oufctickets.co.uk and 01865 337533.
