Women Warm Up With Saints Win

10 March 2015

Lane and Simmonds sink the Saints

Oxford United Women won 2-0 at home to Southampton Saints this weekend in their penultimate pre-season friendly ahead of next week's FA WSL 2 opener at home to Watford.

The U's started strongly and created numerous chances, with Lauren Allison, Isi Meade and Katie Stanley all seeing early efforts go agonisingly wide.

United again dominated possession after the break and created further chances, with Kayleigh Hines hitting the bar with a 20-yard effort. Oxford did eventually take the lead just before half-time when a corner was cleared out as far as Stanley, whose low cross found Rosie Lane lurking to coolly side-foot the ball into the net.

With the final whistle looming Oxford finally got a deserved second goal, with Allison's perfectly weighted pass finding Gemma Simmonds to complete the scoring against her old club.

The Women begin their WSL 2 season next Thursday evening when they welcome Watford to Abingdon United's Northcourt Road stadium. Come along and support the Women as they kick off their season.
