Collins Thanks Fans as United Get Set for Morecambe

Get behind United as we welcome Morecambe to the Kassam Stadium

Oxford United fans have drawn special praise from midfielder Michael Collins after almost 1,300 of them backed the U’s at Portsmouth on Saturday.

The Yellow Army were in fine voice at Fratton Park and are being urged to come along on Tuesday night to get behind the U’s as they welcome Morecambe to the Kassam Stadium.

“All credit to the fans on Saturday” Michael told Yellow Player. “That is probably the only time this season we will have 15,000 opposition fans against us but there were times when the Oxford fans were making more noise than the home ones and that is a brilliant effort from them. Long may it continue.”

The U’s earned a hard-fought point at Portsmouth to follow up an impressive 3-0 win over Mansfield in the previous game. Four points from two games is a good return but Collins was honest in his assessment:

“We have done well but this is the sharp end of the season and we can’t afford to take two steps forward and one back again. We need to be positive once again against Morecambe .”

The midfielder, outstanding in the last two games, is calling on the United faithful to roar their team on once more on Tuesday night:

“ They have given us fantastic support especially when you consider that we are in a position in the league that we weren’t expecting to be. To have 1,200 of them travel to Portsmouth to support us is great credit to the club and just shows you what the potential is here. Everyone here is working very  hard to make sure we get safe now this season and provided we do it right then you can see what could happen here- Saturday was a great example of that. We need everyone right behind us again tomorrow night.”
