Club Mourns the Passing of Jim Hunt

4 February 2015

Thoughts with the family of our former Club Secretary

Everyone at Oxford United has been saddened to hear the news that former Club Secretary Jim Hunt passed away earlier this week aged 91.

Jim joined the club as Supporters Club Secretary, and after five years in that role became Club Secretary in 1976. He was part of the backroom team throughout the club’s golden years in the 1980s. One of the game’s unsung heroes, Jim edited the matchday programme for many years and was a familiar figure to the United supporters, joining the Board as a Director after retiring as secretary in 1989.

Mick Brown, who succeeded Jim as Club Secretary in 1989, led the tributes.

“Jim was a fantastic servant to the club. Not only was he a massive supporter of the team but he was also extremely supportive of everyone behind the scenes.

“He was very knowledgeable and had so many friends throughout football, not just at Oxford United. He moved up to Scotland after his retirement but I know he still followed our results. Our thoughts are with his son James and daughter Paula and their families.”
