Michael Appleton gets ready for Northampton
Oxford United welcome Northampton Town to the Kassam Stadium on Tuesday night for the penultimate home game of the season. The U’s have put a decent run together of late and come up against a Cobblers side who still have play-off ambitions under former United boss Chris Wilder.
“Northampton still have designs on getting in the play-offs, and rightly so from where they are” Head Coach Michael Appleton told Yellow Player.” It’s down the road so that helps and the atmosphere should be good, but we still want to finish strongly and finish the season on a high ourselves. It’s only two defeats in eleven games now, four unbeaten, and we want to continue that.
“It’s the last evening game and we haven’t done too well in them at home so that’s another thing we want to put right so we are looking forward to the game.”
Irish striker Patrick Hoban is the big doubt for the U’s after limping off with a dead leg during the 0-0 draw at AFC Wimbledon on Saturday.
“Pat got a dead leg, a pretty bad one, and so he’s struggling” Michael said “ and we have another couple of knocks so we have two or three in the treatment room and we will have to leave it to the last minute. We have players ready to step up if asked to. There’s a good team spirit at the moment and with a few additions in the right places for next season hopefully we will have the balance to move forward but first and foremost it's about ending this season the right way.”
