Stonesfield Strikers' Big Day Out

Local team are our final Guard of Honour of the season

Stonesfield Strikers enjoyed a day they will never forget on Saturday as they were Oxford United’s guests of honour against Cambridge United .

280 players, parents and coaches were given an autograph sheet (designed by the Yellow Army) and a programme and were then joined in the Quadrangle Suite by the entire first team squad. A brief introduction was given by Stonesfield Strikers Chairman Paul Charles, familiar to United fans for his Isinglass connection.

Local lads Callum O'Dowda, Sam Long, Josh Ruffels and Aidan Hawtin gave a brief question and answer session, talking about  where they were from, the local clubs they played for, schools they went to and their journey to the first team. Mickey Lewis and Wayne Brown then gave a bit of background about their involvement with the club and some of the highs and lows in their careers.

After lunch 90 Stonesfield players made their way onto the pitch to create our biggest guard of honour of the season to welcome the teams onto the pitch.

At half time the players took part in a  penalty shoot-out extravaganza against Olly the Ox and Under 17s women's keeper Paris Sercombe. All of the players were encouraged to celebrate in front of the East Stand who gave them a great reception.

With the U’s winning 2-0  to end their home games in style it was a fantastic day out for all concerned and we look forward to seeing Stonesfield Strikers again.
