Striker wins the Andrew Knapton Trophy
Top-scorer Danny Hylton was proud and delighted to accept the Supporters Player of the Year Trophy on Saturday as he capped a great season with a win, an award and a goal.
“First of all I was delighted to win the award but also to win the game because we want to take some momentum into next season” he told Yellow Player after his 16th goal of the season helped the U’s beat Cambridge United 2-0.
Hylton’s non-stop running has made him a big favourite with the Kassam Stadium crowd and he receieved over 90% of the vote for the Fans Player of the Season, receiving the Andrew Knapton trophy from Darrell Fisher before kick-off on Saturday. Danny was typically modest about the accolade:
“I’m chuffed but without the group of lads in the dressing room- all 25 of them in there- it means nothing. We have staff who leave no stone unturned to prepare us for every game; they give us everything. To say I won an award is great and makes me really happy but without that lot none of it would have been possible. So thank you to the boys, the staff and everyone.
“It has been a long hard season but I have loved every minute of it. The lads and the fans made it really easy to settle. It’s still not over, we have a last game at Newport on Saturday. If we can win there it gives the club a lift on and off the field so we want to finish as well as we can and then come back flying next season.”
Congratulations to Danny and thanks to everyone who voted. Wednesday night will see the Annual Awards Dinner where the Goal of the Season, Golden Boot, Players’ Player of the Year, Young Player and Club Person of the Year will all be announced.
