Youth Team Beat Swindon

Chris Allen's under 18s beat Swindon Town

  • Under 18s enjoy derby win over Swindon
  • Jeacock and Cundy on the mark
  • Chris Allen reminds them what a derby mean

Oxford United’s under 18s kept their winning run going with an excellent 2-0 win over Swindon Town on Saturday at the Oxford Sport and Social Ground. Goals from winger George Jeacock and centre-half Robbie Cundy left Youth Team Coach Chris Allen delighted with his side:

“It’s not very often I get excited but the boys were right up for it” he said. “We knew it was going to be a tough game because Swindon had won six games out of six and had maximum points. The boys started really well and worked ever so hard. Being a derby as well I thought we competed better than them and won the battles. If they didn’t know what it means to play for Oxford against Swindon before then they certainly did by kick off because I told them all week!

“We got off to a great start when George Jeacock gave us the lead with a shot across the box. Swindon like to play out from the back and fair play to them they stuck at that but we closed them down and played our own football and I thought we had chances to be further in front, especially early in the second half.

“We went 2-0 up through Robbie Cundy. I have been on at the centre-halves that they should be scoring more from set pieces so it was good to see him do exactly that. After that goal we should probably have got four or five. We had one-on-ones where George Jeacock and Muctaru Conte got through and couldn’t beat the keeper,  but that’s picking holes in what was an excellent team performance. Every one of them should be pleased with the way they played.”
