Development side win friendly game
A young Oxford United Development Side won 2-1 this afternoon in a friendly against Peckham United at the Oxford Sport and Social Club. The U’s gave first year pros James Roberts, Sam Humphreys, and Josh Ashby opportunities to impress alongside a mix of first and second year scholars.
United opened the scoring when Roberts was brought down and scored from the penalty spot shortly after the half hour mark and doubled their lead when left back Miles Welch-Hayes squeezed a second half effort in at the keeper’s near post. Peckham showed plenty of ability and spirit and pulled one back with ten minutes to go and were only denied a draw when United keeper Jack Stevens made a superb save to keep an 89th minute effort out.
Mickey Lewis told us:
“ We created a lot of chances, hit the post two or three times and their keeper has played really well, but credit to Peckham who were all young lads and looking to impress. They came back into it to make it a competitive match and one that the youngsters on both sides will learn plenty from.”
