Northampton Town v Oxford United Preview

2 May 2014

We look ahead to tomorrow's end-of-season clash at Sixfields

We look ahead to Oxford United's final Sky Bet League 2 game at Northampton Town on Saturday.

TEAM NEWS
United look to end their season on a high as they travel to a Cobblers side fighting to avoid the drop. Northampton need at least a point to be safe from relegation but The U's will be fully focussed on their own priorities:

“Other clubs are fighting for their lives so we have to make sure that we do it the right way, and we will." head coach Gary Waddock said. "We will take a big following up there. Our fans wanted to go there with us looking to get in the play-offs but unfortunately that’s not going to happen for us, so we have to make sure we go and get a result for them on Saturday. Forget everything else, the most important thing is to get a result for our football club.

“We want to go into the summer in a positive frame of mind and put a stop to the run of results that we have had. Then we can sit down, look at the squad and make some big decisions. The biggest thing in my mind is to make sure that when we go out there on Saturday it is the best eleven to try and win us a football match."

United have no new injury worries ahead of the game.

THE OPPOSITION
Northampton, managed by former Oxford boss Chris Wilder, know that they need just one point on Saturday to guarantee survival and send either Wycombe Wanderers or Bristol Rovers down to the Conference.

Wilder is aware that tomorrow's game has more significance than him facing his previous club: “Saturday is not about me facing a former club, it is about getting the result we need,” he said.

“We are not safe. We need a big effort on Saturday. We have always believed and still do."
