Defender joins the U's on loan
- Oxford United sign Joe Riley
- Bolton Right-back in on loan until January 1st
- Michael Appleton pleased with new arrival
Oxford United today completed the signing of Joe Riley on loan from Bolton Wanderers.
Joe, 22, is a highly-rated right-back who made his Premier League debut for Bolton as a 19 year old. Injuries have restricted his appearances over the last couple of seasons but he is now fully fit and joins the U’ on loan until January after passing his medical this morning.
“I’m delighted to have Joe here” head Coach Michael Appleton said. “He is six foot tall, he has pace and he uses the ball well. A lot of clubs have been monitoring his career and he has a chance to come here, play games and show everyone what a good player he is.”
Joe said:
“It’s a great opportunity for me. I spoke with Michael then came and had a look around and was really impressed with the whole club. It is set up for success and hopefully I can come in and play a part in that.”
Joe joins fellow new signings Danny Hylton, Michael Collins and George Long in the United squad to face Wolves at the Kassam Stadium on Tuesday night and Michael is optimistic that there will be further new faces as United build to the big kick-off:
“We are getting there. There are two or three more players we have been speaking to who we believe would improve us as a group. The players we already have here have been first class in pre-season but you are always striving to improve and add competition so we will continue to work very hard on adding the right people to the squad before the season starts.”
