Oxford United's Guest of Honour against Mansfield Town is Paul Wanless
Former United midfielder Paul Wanless is our guest of honour this Saturday for United's game against Mansfield Town.Wanny had two spells with United, coming through the ranks to make his debut in 1991 and then returning to the club in 2003 following a lengthy spell with Cambridge United.
Paul is an Oxford fan and still gets to as many games as he can to cheer on the U's. We asked him if, when he played with them, Mickey Lewis or Andy Melville showed signs of being coaches. He told us: "I could see it in Mickey because of the way he played. He gave it his all and he organised on the pitch and was a lovely lad off the pitch. He was the worst runner in training but on the pitch no one ran more than him. Andy knew the game and you could see that he had it in him. He went on to play at the top level and won lots of caps for Wales so he’s very experienced."
Read the rest of Wanny's four-page interview in our matchday magazine, available for just £3 from sellers around the ground or from www.matchdayfix.com/oufc. You can hear Paul speak in the 12th Man Bar at 1.45 on Saturday afternoon.
