Youth team lose out

United's under 18s were beaten 2-1 at home by Torquay on Saturday. Chris Allen told us
“Becoming a footballer is not all about ability it is also about character and in this game we didn’t show enough of that. Torquay were physically quite a strong team and we struggled with that. We conceded from a corner and then an individual mistake and were 2-0 down.

“We did get a goal back to make it 2-1 through Luke Hastings but we didn’t do enough to win the game over all. You can’t just turn out and think you can just play your football and it’s going to be light and fluffy. You have to have grit and determination as well. We want to play nice football but we want to compete in every single game and on this occasion we didn’t do enough of that.

“My question to them afterwards was pretty simple: have you got it inside you to win games like this? That is what makes players stand out and have careers in football.”

United
Stephens, Balogan, Cundy,  A Grant, F Grant, Diaz-Benitez, Cook (Humphries 46), Pearson )Dillion 75), Hastings, Conte (Tuttle 80), Williams
