Defender eligible for Saturday under loan deal
United will wait on the fitness of right-back Joe Riley as they welcome Cheltenham Town to the Kassam Stadium on Saturday, but the on-loan Bolton defender is definitely eligible to play if he recovers from a tight hamstring.Riley’s initial loan was amended and runs out after Saturday’s game while talks are ongoing to keep the talented youngster with the U’s for longer. After limping off during the home game against Shrewsbury Riley missed Sunday’s win at Plymouth but is recovering well and could be in contention again.
Jon Meades should also be available again on Saturday after taking a blow to the head during the Shrewsbury match. Meades missed the trip to Home Park as a precaution but is expected to be in the squad and with Sam Long and Johnny Mullins both having done well at right-back on Sunday Head Coach Michael Appleton will have some interesting decisions to make on the right-hand side of defence.
