Development Side Lose Out at Southend

U's beaten at Southend

A storming second half comeback wasn’t quite enough this afternoon as United’s Development squad lost 4-3 at Southend United despite goals from Aidan Hawtin, Callum O’Dowda and James Roberts.
Mickey Lewis told us:

“Last week at Reading we had a great first half against a very strong side and then we didn’t perform in the second half and let the game get away from us. Today was the complete opposite. We were terrific in the second half but had given ourselves too much to do.

“We were 2-0 down when Aidan scored to get us back into the game at 2-1 then it went 3-1, 4-1 and then we come back into it. Callum scored a good goal to make it 4-2 and suddenly we are on top and on the front foot. James Roberts makes it 4-3 and we then create some great chances to get at least level and maybe more.

“Ok, it is a friendly game but it is still vital that we learn from each game if we want to progress then we have to keep playing for the whole ninety minutes not just half a game.”
