York Preview

17 April 2014

We look forward to Good Friday as Oxford United welcome York City

United welcome York City to the Kassam Stadium tomorrow (3pm) in Sky Bet League 2. Here we present a full guide to the game.

Team News
It is a huge game for both clubs with just one point and one place between them as they chase the play-off places. United are unlikely to have Deane Smalley available after a calf injury but Alfie Potter is fit again after coming on as a sub in the win at Plymouth last weekend.

James Constable's goal at Plymouth means that he is now just one goal behind the club record 107 set by Graham Atkinson - come along and see if James can write his name into the history books.

See Gary Waddock previewing the game in Yellow Player right now where we also have a great Preview Show with James Constable and Ryan Clarke ahead of the game

The Opposition
York boss Nigel Worthington has guided his side to the edge of the play-offs but conceding a last minute goal against Accrington last weekend meant that the former Norwich boss’s side dropped below United.

Worthington preferred to dwell on the positives as his side picked up a point  “There is no need to be depressed. We are in a fantastic position and the point could be a very important one. There’s no doubt that we dropped two. That’s there for everyone to see but it was another solid performance full of energy and commitment.

“I have told the players you get disappointments in this game and it’s all about how you recover from them. There is nothing to be ashamed of and there is still everything to play for.

“We have had a terrific season and are still unbeaten in 13 games.  But we have got to get our heads up, put smiles on our faces and get ready for Oxford. To still have a keen interest in what’s going on in the play offs is a great achievement for everybody at the club.”
