Roberts scores twice as Under-18s go down 4-2 at Hereford
United’s under 18s were beaten 4-2 at Hereford United in the Youth Alliance Cup on Saturday.
Two goals from leading scorer James Roberts were not enough for the U’s, as Coach Chris Allen told www.oufc.co.uk:
“Credit to Hereford who were probably the best side we have played so far this season. They outbattled us, outplayed us and outsmarted us and deserved to win the game.
“We never got close enough to them and after a couple of errors at the back we were 2-0 down and chasing the game. The lads did respond and james Roberts made a great run and slotted home from eight yards to make it 2-1, and then Greg Hackett put in a cross from the right which James headed home, so we were back in the game at 2-2.
“James also missed a penalty and could have had more goals, but having got back into the game we then missed a crucial tackle on half way, Hereford broke on us and a good finish put us 3-2 down. Again we chased the game but in doing that we left ourselves a bit open and they scored again to leave it 4-2 at the end.
“I was not too happy with the performance. We are scoring goals but have yet to keep a clean sheet and we need to tighten up all over the park. It is all about your response and I will certainly be looking for us to compete more in the next game.”
