Under 18s win again

United’s under-18s got back to winning ways with a 2-0 win over Newport County at the Oxford Sports and Social Ground on Saturday morning.

Top scorer James Roberts got both goals and coach Chris Allen was very pleased with his side’s performance:

“It’s always nice to get a win but it was the clean sheet that I was especially pleased with” Chris told www.oufc.co.uk.

“We had two of our under 16s in defence, Kane McCormack and Alfie Grant - playing alongside his brother Freddie. We also had two of our Academy players Miles Welch-Hayes and Rory Golden so it was a young and inexperienced back four, but they did well.

“We had plenty of possession and maybe with a little bit more composure we could have won the game more comfortably than we did. We perhaps rushed things in the final third at times but that will come as the season goes on.

“We scored two good goals, James Roberts sliding the ball in for the first and then heading the ball past the advancing keeper from a Josh Ashby through ball to make it 2-0.

“We never really looked like conceding and we played some good stuff in this match, which gives us something to build on and take into the next game.”
