Oxford United join Sanctuary Housing to offer free football sessions in north Oxfordshire

Youngsters from across Banbury are being given the chance to get fit and healthy and improve their football skills at free coaching sessions which kick-off in their local community next week.

Delivered by Sanctuary Housing in partnership with Oxford United Football Club, the Banbury football sessions are open to all young people, male or female, from 12-17 years of age from across the area.

The free training, run by fully qualified coaches, will take place every Thursday at North Oxfordshire Academy from 4.30pm-6.30pm and starts on 19 September.

The exciting programme will give participants the opportunity to develop their football talents, improve physical health and wellbeing, increase their confidence and self esteem, and allow them to interact and engage with other members of the local community in a positive way.

The training sessions in Oxford form part of the national Sanctuary in Sport project involving the delivery of a range of activities to youngsters across the country, designed to encourage health and wellbeing and help keep communities active.

Chris Lowes, community manger at Oxford United, commented: “Sport provides the ideal platform for young people to take part in a healthy activity where they can develop new skills, so we are really excited to be working with Sanctuary and delivering these sessions to the community.

“Youngsters are welcome to take part in the training regardless of their ability so I would encourage anyone with an interest to come along and reap the benefits the training can bring.”
