Chris Wilder on Morecambe

United boss Chris Wilder was pleased with his side’s storming performance as they beat Morecambe 3-0 on Saturday. The U’s were outstanding in the first half, scoring three goals, and then professional in the second to ensure that they stay top of the League 2 table.

“We asked for a good positive performance, we asked for a few goals and we asked for a clean sheet and we got all three so we are delighted” the Manager told Yellow Player. “We got the job done in the first half which we are pleased about. We had to work extremely hard but we played some really good football as well.

“We knew there would be a reaction in the second half from Morecambe and their manager who I have a lot of respect for. They had the opportunity to go fourth in the league and we have obviously not been at our best at home and I think they were 3-0 down against Chesterfield and ended up winning 4-3 so we knew there would be a reaction. But we are disappointed not to have scored a couple of goals ourselves in the second half.

“The front four picked up where they left off at Mansfield where they were excellent but we were good all over the pitch.  The bottom line is that we won a game and maintained our position at the top of the league.”
