United are back on the road against the Stags

We look ahead to this Saturday's SkyBet League 2 trip to Mansfield.

TEAM NEWS

Tom Newey is expected to be fit for the journey to Field Mill despite going off in last week’s 2-2 draw with Gateshead with concussion, but United will be without captain Jake Wright after he pulled a hamstring in the same match. He joins Jon Meades and Alfie Potter on the treatment table, with Andy Whing being handed the captain’s armband in his absence. Whing missed last week’s match with an ankle injury but should be fit to start against Mansfield.

Hear the thoughts of assistant boss Mickey Lewis in this week’s Preview Show, where you can also see interviews with Michael Raynes and Jake Wright.

The Opposition

Mansfield could be without striker Ollie Palmer, who tore his hamstring in last week’s FA Cup at St Albans. But they could be boosted by the return of captain John Dempster after the former United defender came through a behind-closed-doors friendly against Bradford City this week.

The Stags are currently without a goal in 428 minutes of league football but after ending their drought with an 8-1 thrashing of St Albans City last week in the FA Cup manager Paul Cox believes his side have what it takes to inflict a first away defeat of the season on the U’s. He told mansfieldtown.net: “We need to get back to [doing] what we’re good at and we did that [last] Saturday. Every team goes through little blips. We know that we’ve got a hard run between now and Christmas, but I’m sure the lads will embrace that.

“The quality in this league is consistent. There aren’t any easy games and every team we play will have something about them. If you don’t give teams the respect they deserve, you will get punished – it’s as simple as that.”
