United Ladies win 6-1 at Exeter to go top of the league
Oxford United Ladies have their destiny in their own hands following their 6-1 win at Exeter City on Sunday. This result saw the U's overtake Keynsham Town to go top of the South West Combination by one point, with both sides having just one game remaining.
United were two goals up in the first 10 minutes with leading scorer Lauren Allison netting both and Dan Anderson made it 3-0 before half-time. At the start of the second half Allison completed her hat-trick. Exeter, who are coached by first-team defender Steve Tully, pulled a goal back but it didn't put Oxford off their stride and the U's scored further goals from Tash Caswell and Lauren May.
Keynsham, who won the League Cup yesterday with a 2-0 win over Swindon Town, play their final game at Plymouth Argyle on Sunday 19th May, but if Oxford win their last match at home to Swindon, which is provisionally arranged for this Thursday at the Oxford United training ground (6.30pm), the U's will be champions and will win promotion to the Women's Premier League Division 2.
