Help a Legend and Get Behind the U's
The newly-founded Yellow Army will be kicking off Oxford United’s season with a bang at Portsmouth on Saturday.
Along with an array of new banners and flags, the 2,500 travelling fans will also be given the chance to contribute to the effort to buy Us legend Dave Langan’s Second Division and Milk Cup winners medals, with Yellow Army volunteers collecting outside Fratton Park.
Says OxVox chairman Mark Sennett, who is organising the fund-raising: “A month ago, we announced that we were going to try to raise £5,000 to buy Langy’s medals, to help him buy a mobile home. We already have £3,000 in the pot, and our aim is to reach our £5,000 target on Saturday. If each adult fan contributes £1 each, then we’ll make it easily. Once we’ve bought the medals, they will be put on display at our stadium, where everyone can see them and remember the great things that Dave Langan did for our club.”
One of the Yellow Army’s aims is to ensure that, whether home or away, the team run out at the start of the game to see a sea of yellow.
Co-ordinating that effort is Joe Nicholls, who says: "We all realise just what a big day Saturday is. There will be a sell out crowd, and Portsmouth is a great place to start the season. But this is about Oxford United, and we in the Yellow Army want to give the best possible support to the players, and show the true Yellow Army spirit. It would give a real boost to the players if the away end is a sea of yellow, and for it to be loud and proud. Fans can wear yellow, bring ticker tape, balloons and flags, to give the players a truly special welcome. The Ultras are planning a display, and we are working on bringing flags and banners, to add colour to the away end"
Lets start the season with a bang, and show just what the Yellow Army can do when we unite as one, to support the mighty Oxford United.
