OxVox Tournament A Great Success

1 July 2013

Club and fans all together for fantastic tournament

There was fun in the sun for everyone yesterday as fans, staff and former players came together for the OxVox six-a-side tournament.

15 teams entered the competition at the Oxford Academy in Littlemore, with the Park United side emerging victorious.

The initial group stages saw the OUFC side, featuring Chris Lowes and Adam Bowerman from the Community side of the club, former player Declan Benjamin and physio Max Martini emerge from a tough group that also featured Communications Manager Chris Williams’ youthful Off The Ball side. In group two, refereed by programme editor Martin Brodetsky, Directors Simon and Adrian Lenagan played for their Very Old Woodstock Town team, taking them through to the final stages of the competition while father Ian looked on.

The fans were represented by some very good sides, led by the OxVox team, but nobody really had an answer to the Park United side that included former United defender Eddie Odhiambo, now of Brackley, as well as his brother Eric, formerly of Leicester City, and older brother Anaclet, a striker who has scored constantly throughout local football.

Eddie told us:

“We all played together as kids and after 20 years the whole team have stayed very close; the same manager was in charge today. I jumped at the chance to play alongside my brothers and it was a great day.”

Mark Sennett of OxVox said:

“It was a fantastic day which really brought everyone together again. We had worthy winners and everyone enjoyed themselves. There was some very good football played on a very hot day and we look forward to hosting another tournament next year.”

A special video report on the day will feature in Yellow Player tomorrow
