We look forward to tonight's pre-season game

United look to continue their excellent progress in pre-season as they take on Alloa Athletic tonight in their second pre-season game of the summer.

Chris Wilder’s squad travelled to Edinburgh on Monday after a 2-1 win over Ardley United on Saturday. The U’s went through a tough session in brilliant sunshine at the university yesterday and will have a light training session this morning before heading for Alloa’s Recreation Park ground to take on their Scottish League One hosts.

Young midfielder Josh Shama is not with the party as a precaution after a slight knee injury but is expected to be available by the time the home games against Birmingham City on 20th July and Coventry City on 27th come around. Sam Long, who played in a youthful United XI’s 10 – 1 win at Deddington on Saturday, replaces Shama in the squad tonight. Ty Marsh had a minor car accident on the way home from Ardley and stayed in Oxford for a further day of assessment just as a precaution but travelled up yesterday, trained in the evening, and is fit to play tonight.

Manager Chris Wilder is again likely to give all 22 players in the squad some game time tonight but may look at different combinations. On Saturday he paired James Constable up front with Marsh in the first half and Dave Kitson  with Deane Smalley in the second 45. Those combinations could be switched around this evening as could the midfield area where Asa Hall, Andy Whing, Danny Rose, Jon Meades and Scott Davies look to be vying for just two places when United atart their league campaign at Portsmouth on August 3rd.
