Wilder on Pompey win

United will look to keep the momentum going from their superb opening day win at Portsmouth as they take on Bury at the Kassam Stadium in the first home league game of the season this Saturday

A resounding 4-1 win at Fratton Park has got the fans buzzing and perfectly set up Saturday’s opening home fixture.

“It was a good first day and I’m delighted for the two and a half thousand fans  and the players and staff” Manager Chris Wilder said afterwards.  “We won’t get carried away: I have experienced players in the dressing room who said the right things afterwards, but it is days like this that you are in football for. “

Over 2.500 fans gave the U’s wonderful backing at Portsmouth and the manager thanked every one of the Yellow Army for their support:

“You drive round the corner and the first pub you see is full of yellow. You see people wishing the boys all the best as we are walking in, then the players turn up to that unbelievable reception at kick-off. That’s what it is all about. It has been a fantastic day and we’d love to replicate that on Saturday.”

United head for Charlton in the Capital One Cup on Tuesday before al eyes turn to the Kassam Stadium this weekend.

“There is a real feel-good buzz about the place” Chris told Yellow Player. “I appreciate what the supporters did because it is such a lift for the players. I know it can’t always be like that but hopefully we will have many more days like this. We will go to Charlton and pick a side and make sure we are right for that game. Then hopefully we can try and make it two out of two next Saturday with the fans right behind us again.”
