Manager looks forward to Saturday

The U’s look to stretch their unbeaten start to the season as they take on Rochdale at the Kassam Stadium on Saturday. United have picked up ten points from their opening four games but Manager Chris Wilder still believes there is room for improvement from his side:

“I still think there’s a lot more to come” Chris told Yellow Player. “We always talked about how important it is during the first period to get a decent set of results and points on the board. There’s still loads to work on; I think we can be better with the ball, I think we can be a bit more patient and make the pass at the right time, but generally the attitude and character of the team has been first class.

“That standard needs to be consistent throughout if we’re going to continue to pick up points, but I still think there’s more to come from us and hopefully we can keep building and improving on that while at the same time still picking up points.”

Rochdale boss Keith Hill has enjoyed success at this level in the past and Chris knows his side will be in for a tough game:

“Keith had success four years ago with Rochdale, taking them up so he knows the league and he built a really good footballing side and that’s what he’ll be trying to do now. He’s brought a few players in over the summer and will be hoping they gel, but they’ll be a decent side who want to pass, with good movement all over the pitch and two full-backs who want to get forward. They’ll be a different test to Wycombe and Bury.”

Dave Kitson made a welcome return to the side as a half time sub last Saturday and his presence always gives a boost to the United forward line:

“He takes the pressure off the forwards and leads the line really well, which is something we’ve been looking for for the last two or three years since we’ve come into the League” Chris said “I’m sure a goal’s just round the corner for him because two of the opposition goalkeepers have made fabulous saves against him and there’s a couple of balls that have just fallen a yard either side of him. I’m sure if they do fall right for him then he’s off and running.”
