O'Dowda debut

6 August 2013

Callum O'Dowda and Ryan Williams make first starts for United

Following last Saturday's demolition of Portsmouth at Fratton Park, the U's visit the Valley this evening to take on Charlton Athletic in the first round of the Capital One Cup (7.45pm).

Chris Wilder has retained the defence and central midfield from Saturday's win, but it's on the flanks and up front where he has rung the changes. Ryan Williams starts on the right wing, making his United debut following his signing on loan from Fulham last week. On the left flank there's a first start for Callum O'Dowda. The Oxford youth product impressed everyone with his pre-season performances and he is rewarded tonight with his first team debut.

Up front James Constable is given the opportunity to press his case for a League start, while Asa Hall will play in the hole between midfield and attack.

The result must be decided tonight, so if scores are level after 90 minutes the game will go to 30 minutes extra-time followed, if necessary, by a penalty shoot-out.

UNITED: Clarke, Hunt, Mullins, Wright, Newey, Williams, Whing, Rose, O'Dowda, Hall, Constable
Subs: Crocombe, Raynes, Rigg, Smalley, Potter, Davies, Ruffels
