Striker set to be involved as United welcome Rochdale

Top of the table United welcome Rochdale to the Kassam Stadium this Saturday looking to stretch their unbeaten league start to the season.

Three wins and a draw in the first four games have given The U’s top spot in the early SkyBet league two standings and they will hope to have top scorer Deane Smalley available again as they welcome Rochdale.

Smalley missed Saturday’s 2-2 draw with Wycombe as a precaution after feeling a tightening in his hamstring in training. Rather than risk worsening the injury and suffering a longer period on the sidelines the former Dale loanee sat out Saturday’s game but is hoping to be back in action at the Kassam Stadium on Saturday.

“I just felt it a little bit in training  in the week before the game” he told us . “We talked about it and thought it was best to leave it and not be involved in the Wycombe game and to look after it for a few days. It was a sensible decision really- I’d rather miss one game than play, possibly damage it and miss six or seven weeks.”

“Hopefully I will be fit for Saturday and can keep the goals coming. This is only a small setback really and I hope to be involved.”
