Wilder welcomes Whing influence

Midfielder set for starting place as U's face Stanley

Andy Whing is set for his first start of the season as United welcome Accrington Stanley on Saturday.

The midfielder has been out with a groin injury since the start of the season but has returned to the squad over the past couple of weeks with substitute appearances at Cheltenham Town and Port Vale.

Chris Wilder's men are looking to bounce back after Monday's defeat to the Valiants and the manager believes that the 28-year-old's  inclusion will benefit the team.

"Whingy will definitely start," Wilder said. "It's a time for the players to be men and to stand up and be counted. Whingy is experienced and he is the type of player we need."

United have also been lifted by striker Jon-Paul Pittman's return to training over the last two days and he hopes to be involved on Saturday. However, captain Jake Wright will miss out due to suspension.

Read an in-depth, exclusive interview with Andy Whing in Saturday's must read matchday magazine.
