Chris Wilder on the win over Wimbledon

Chris Wilder was quick to praise the United fans following his side’s 3-2 win over AFC Wimbledon last night. The supporters backed their team in their hour of need and the Manager  thanked them first when he spoke to Yellow Player:

“The fans were unbelievable. I always say it as it is regarding the supporters. And for a period when we were 2-1 down that is the best they have been since I have been here. By a long way in terms of what they did for the players. I am really appreciative of that.”

Six straight defeats had hurt everyone, but Chris believes the character shown last night will now push United forward once more.

“It’s not been the best month of my life, or anyone else associated with the football club! We’ve turned it around a little bit tonight and hopefully it’s a step in the right direction.

“We were down at half time. Coxy and Wayne Brown come in injured but wanted to battle through. Coxy was nowhere near being able to do that, Browny gave it a go. But in their places  I thought Simon Heslop showed great character. He is a decent player but has been going through a dip. And Ryan Clarke as well. I made a difficult decision, sometimes you have to do that, to pull him out of the team to let him settle down a bit, and he has come on and shown an unbelievable attitude.

“As ever, if you are on a losing run people want to chuck bombs into your camp. It wasn’t the most spectacular of performances, but I thought it showed the players wanting to give it a real go to get out there and get a result for this football club.”
