Wilder Ready for Accrington

Manager looks forward to Saturday's FA Cup game

Manager Chris Wilder sends his team out at Accrington tomorrow looking to make sure that it is Oxford United who are ball 58 in Sunday’s third round draw.

The U’s are buoyant after a good win over in-form Northampton last weekend, and Chris is looking to continue that progress as they turn their attention to the FA Cup.

“There’s no break for us and it’s onwards and upwards” he told Yellow Player. “We are very positive after Saturday’s performance against Northampton, positive after the result and positive with the news that Damian Batt and Liam Davis will be back in the squad. Tommy Craddock should be available the week after and Michael Duberry for the week after that. So game by game we are getting stronger.”

United enjoyed their biggest win of the season at home to Accrington in the league, but that game counts for absolutely nothing in the cup, according to the Manager who has prepared for the game in his usual thorough manner:

“I went there on Tuesday and for me they should have beaten Rotherham. Accrington go about it their own way and will be smarting from a comprehensive defeat against us in the league. But their players will know that that counts for nothing now. It’s a chance to get into the third round and their boys will be thinking the same as ours on Friday night, that they’d like to go to Goodison, Anfield, or somewhere like that. It does represent  a massive chance for both clubs.”

The tie pits two league two sides against each other, something that Chris thinks has its advantages:

“For me it’s good that we’re playing someone we know, and we will not underestimate or take anyone for granted in our division. They will think that they can win, and we will be feeling the same, so it’s all about who gets the result and gets in the hat come Sunday.”
