Chris Wilder on Exeter Win

Chris Wilder paid tribute to the fans who backed his side in the 3-1 win at Exeter on Boxing Day. Just over 300 United fans made the long trip south to St James’ Park, something the Manager definitely appreciated:

“The fixture list wasn’t kind to us” he told Yellow Player.” We were away from home on Boxing Day, the furthest anyone had to travel. We were OK and had a hotel and prepared properly, but for the supporters to have to come three and a half hours to back their team was first class and we appreciate that today.”

“We said we needed to start properly and apply ourselves and the boys have been excellent. They came in on Christmas Day and trained, travelled down and got on with things and treated it as another league game and we have got a decent win under our belts."

“It was a real team performance. We could have maybe scored a couple more, but the defenders played their part as well.”

United have now picked up four wins and four draws from their last eight games and will head for Wimbledon on Saturday looking to carry on their good form:

“We have to turn a few of those draws into wins but we managed to do that today. There will be no jumping through hoops, we will just go and prepare for Saturday and hopefully go to Wimbledon and keep the run going.”
