Oxford United Saddened To Hear of Death of Colin Booth

Colin Booth

Oxford United were saddened to learn of the death of former U's striker Colin Booth, who passed away on Sunday at the age of 90.

Booth joined Oxford from Doncaster Rovers for £7,500 in the summer of 1964. In his first season at the Manor, Booth set the club’s League goalscoring record with 23 goals, including a hat-trick in United’s record League win, 7-0 against Barrow. Booth’s record would stand for 19 seasons until Steve Biggins went one better in 1983/84.

In his second season with the club, Booth suffered badly with injuries and had to undergo an operation. He was advised to stop playing and at the end of the season he was released, having scored 23 goals in his 52 appearances.

Booth started as an apprentice in 1950 with Wolves, where he won two Football League winner's medals. He joined Nottingham Forest in October 1959 and moved to Doncaster at the end of the 1960/61 season. He was leading scorer in both his seasons at Belle Vue, grabbing a total of 57 goals in his 88 league games.

The Club sends its condolences to all Colin's family and friends.
