United Visit Oxford Children's Hospital

First team squad distribute presents to the children

Oxford United's first-team squad visited the Oxford Children's Hospital this afternoon to distribute hundreds of presents donated by Oxford United supporters in the run up to Christmas.

Thanks to the generosity of the United fans, combined with a great gesture from the Tesco supermarket at the Oxford Retail Park, well over a hundred children were given some excellent presents. Children and parents expressed their gratitude, while the players went from ward to ward to visit those children who will be spending their Christmas in hospital, as well as visiting the outpatients ward.

After going around the wards, club captain Jake Wright told us "At this time of year it can be quite heartbreaking to see all these children stuck in hospital. It's a visit that the players really want to do. I think those who have children find it harder and I feel so lucky having two healthy boys.

"These kids just want to be at home with their families over Christmas but they're not moaning, they're smiling and happy and their parents are really positive. It makes you feel a little bit guilty at times because you're moaning about little things and there are children here with life-threatening illnesses who just get on with it."
