Slocombe To Move On

19 July 2016

Sam free to find another club

Oxford United goalkeeper Sam Slocombe has  left the club by mutual consent.

The former Scunthorpe keeper joined United a year ago and started the season as first choice but lost his place to Lichtenstein goalie Benji Buchel and struggled to get first team football in the second half of the season.

With Simon Eastwood arriving this summer to challenge Buchel, Max Crocombe returning from loan and Jack Stevens being offered a professional contract United had five goalkeepers on their books and Sam will move on to pastures new with our thanks and best wishes.

Michael Appleton said

“Sam is a good lad and did well for us at the start of last season but he knows that he wouldn’t be getting regular football here this season and so we have agreed that he can move on. I believe a new club is already on the cards and I hope Sam gets himself sorted and playing again very soon”
