Yellow Army Keeps Growing

20 February 2014

New initiatives from the Oxford United supporters group

The Yellow Army today announced a commitment to raise funds for Oxford United's Youth and Community Trust alongside improving the match-day atmosphere, as it unveiled a number of new projects.

Fresh Yellow Army initiatives to support the club and improve supporters match-day experience, include:
  • A range of Yellow Army merchandise to go on sale to raise funds.
  • Yellow Army On Tour – at Dagenham and Redbridge on 29th March.
  • Taking over the running the supporters bar - with an exciting initiative by the club to let fans rename the bar, with suggestions being put to a fans vote.
The strengthening of the bond between the Yellow Army and the club underpins the U's United We Stand motto.

Oxford United can confirm the Yellow Army will man the supporters bar in the South Stand from the Burton Albion game onwards.

Badges, token style key-rings, car stickers and scarves have been ordered by the Yellow Army and will go on sale soon. All profits will be used to help achieve the Yellow Army's objectives.

Among a number of fans to step forward to get involved are Matt Organ and Dougie Haynes who are working with Joe Nicholls on match-day atmosphere.

Joe of the Yellow Army, said: "The Yellow Army's working group has been strengthened and we're hopeful more fans will join in and help out on match-days, even if it is for a few games a season.

"Every United fan is part of the Yellow Army, whether it's keeping in touch online, listening to the match on the radio, or getting along to a game.

"One of the biggest roles of the Yellow Army for the rest of the season will be coming to matches and adding colour and noise as the whole club comes together to try and win promotion."

Matt Organ, of the Yellow Army, added: "We hope all United fans embrace the merchandise that's been ordered - every penny in profit will directly help our football club and go towards improving the match day experience for fans.

"The beauty of the Yellow Army is the flexibility in how the funds raised can be put to use for the benefit of our club as a whole and improving the match day atmosphere."

Charlie Methven, Trustee of the Oxford United Youth and Community Trust, said: "It's been great this season to see ex-players, current players, directors, coaches and fans all mixing together as Oxford United again under the United We Stand banner.

"It's the first time in a generation that fans are playing an active part in the life of our club, so I'd appeal to those fans who have not become more involved to do so, because it's what makes Oxford United so special.

"Through the Yellow Army I've been privileged to play against our heroes in the six-aside and walk alongside United legends. This is what being a part of our football club is all about and I'd love more fans to experience it through the Yellow Army."

Gerald Kelly, Marketing Manager at Oxford United, said: "The club welcomes the increased efforts of the Yellow Army and is looking forward to a number of exciting projects that will bring the club and the fans even closer together.

"I'd encourage any fans who'd like to get involved and help our club to get in touch."
