Chris initially joined United on a two-month loan from Rotherham on 26th November 2015. After his loan expired he was released by the Millers and returned to United on a contract until the end of the 2015/16 season, which he renewed in July 2016, signing a one-year deal.

Chris spent six years with Aberdeen before moving south of the border to sign for Derby County in 2011. He had a lengthy loan spell at Portsmouth under Michael Appleton before joining Sheffield Wednesday in June 2012. Apart from a brief loan at Coventry, Chris was at Hillsborough for three years before his move across the M1 to Rotherham.  

Chris, who can play out wide or up front, has represented Scotland at under-16, under-19 and under-21 levels as well as winning two full caps. He scored on his United home debut against Yeovil in the Football League Trophy area semi-final and also scored both goals as United beat Swindon at Grenoble Road in September 2016, finishing the season as top scorer with 17 goals.
