Oxford United club legend Les Robinson is to have a testimonial.
'Robbo's Testimonial Year' will launch with a Golf Day on October 26, where supporters will have the opportunity to spend the day with Les and a number of club legends.
The testimonial is reward for Les's ten years service from 1990 to 2000, during which time he appeared 459 times for the U's, of which 454 were in the first 11, making Les 6th in the all time Oxford United appearance charts. He scored three goals.
The match which is expected to take place next spring will provide fans with the opportunity to thank Les for his dedication to the club during an eventful decade at the Manor Ground.
He joined United from Doncaster Rovers and had big boots to fill after the right back position had been filled by David Langan and David Bardsley. But Les, affectionately known as Robbo, soon won fans over with his dedication and high levels of consistency. He is fondly remembered as a no-nonsense defender who rarely let a winger beat him.
Les said: "I'm thrilled and humbled to have been granted a testimonial. I loved playing at the Manor and I'm very proud of my time at Oxford United. All I ever wanted to do was play football and I've got so many memories of United.
"We had some very good sides and I played with some great players at Oxford. I think the highlight for me was playing Spurs at White Hart Lane, we played ever so well, but they had Gascoigne and Lineker in their team and Gazza was unplayable that day. Then of course we had '96 when we won promotion, that was an incredible season.
"The fans at the Manor were brilliant and they were very special days. The '96 Reunion we had last year was just brilliant and it will be great to get the boys back together again."
The Testimonial Year launches with a golf day at Magnolia Park. Tickets are now on sale for teams of four at £300 and individuals at £75. Get yours via email@example.com
