PREVIEW Oxford United U18 v Portsmouth U18

Young U's take on Pompey

23 September 2022

Oxford United under 18s are in action at home on Saturday morning when they welcome Portsmouth in the Youth Alliance league.

The game against Portsmouth takes place at the Bangkok Glass Training Centre at 11am and Coach Pablo Haysham told us:

“We have been playing catch up in the league so far because we had to rearrange the first few matches to allow us to got to Italy. That was a fantastic experience but it means we have only had two games in the league, mixed in with cup games where we have done well.

“Things start to settle now and we want to start picking up results on a regular basis. We have had some really good games against Portsmouth in recent seasons and expect another one on Saturday.”

Under 18s beat Portsmouth

U's turn things upside down against Pompey

26 September 2022

Oxford United’s under 18s came from behind to beat Portsmouth 2-1 at the Bangkok Glass Training Centre on Saturday morning.

Trailing to a first half penalty, United stormed back in a rousing second half and goals from Gatlin O’Donkor and Enrique Tiamuna earned them all three points in the Youth Alliance League.

Coach Chris Hackett told us

“We played OK in the first half and were disappointed to be a goal down at half time from the penalty. It was very open and  a good game to watch but we hadn’t taken our chances.

“We got much more on the front foot after the break  and made it 1-1 when Gatlin turned well and scored a good goal, and then we kept the pressure on and got our reward when Enrique stepped up and scored from the spot to make it 2-1 after Kasway Burton was bundled over

“We might have been even more clinical; we created a lot of chances even at 2-1 and their keeper made a couple of decent saves but in the end I thought we deserved the win.”

UNITED
